Chris Sutton compares Patrik Shick with Patrick Bamford

Chris Sutton believes Czech Republic striker Patrik Shick is similar to his Leeds United star Patrick Bamford.

Writing in his Daily Mail column, the BBC pundit was full of praise for the Bayer Leverkusen hitman after his wonder goal downed Scotland in their Euro 2020 opener on Monday.

Shick bagged both goals as the Czechs put the Scots to the sword, but it was his second of the game that caught the eyes, with the former Roma man finding the back of the net from the halfway line.

Sutton reckons the Euros star plays in a similar style to Bamford, inadvertently paying the Leeds star a deserved compliment.

“I’m sure Schick could do a job in the Premier League if any clubs are looking for a striker — and they’ll be well aware of his presence after his goals against Scotland,” the former Celtic striker wrote in the Daily Mail.

“He’s got a bit of Patrick Bamford about him.”

Patrick or Patrik?

The Leeds star would have been left gutted to have missed out on manager Gareth Southgate’s England squad after ending the last Premier League season with 17 goals and seven assists.

Bamford was not even selected in the 33-man initial squad, and would be hoping he breaks into next summer’s World Cup squad.

Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane is leading the line for the Three Lions at the tournament, but we think Southgate could do with someone in the mould of the Leeds star on the bench.

The movement of the 27-year-old and constant willingness to harry opposition defenders are some qualities England could use against some countries.

Sutton sees it, but Southgate is not keen, and Bamford will now have to prove himself all over again next season.

He might not be scoring 50-yard screamers or 30 goals per season, but the Leeds forward deserves to be an England international, and we are tipping him to force his way into that squad in the coming months.
