Chris Kamara responds as Leeds fan turns him into Elland Road Crowdie

Chris Kamara has offered to pay £25 to the Leeds United fan who sent in his photo to be included as a Crowdie at Elland Road on Saturday.

The popular Sky Sports pundit was “in attendance” for the vital 3-0 win over Fulham, despite being on duty for the broadcaster elsewhere.

Over 15,000 supporters took up the offer of paying £25 to have a life-sized cardboard cut-out of themselves or a loved on installed in the stands to show their support for Marcelo Bielsa’s men in their Championship run-in.

And Oliver Rushworth, according to the reference at the bottom of the picture, saw fit to send in a photograph of the charismatic pundit.

Responding to an official tweet from Leeds showing the Crowdie, Kamara wrote on his personal account: “Can you let me know who the person was who paid £25 for my appearance today?

“It’s only polite to say thank you”.

The Crowdie scheme has been a huge success among Leeds fans.

Angus Kinnear has even gone has far as to suggest that he believes the number of cut-outs in Elland Road on Saturday constituted a world record.

And we’re all for the idea.

It could, quite easily, have looked a bit tacky or cheap, but watching the match on television, it actually really helped to break up the stark bareness of the stands.

Clearly, nothing will beat having fans inside the ground, but having all of these cut-outs, alongside other little details like playing Marching On Together when the players walked out and pumping in crowd noise when we scored, shows that the club are really trying to make the best of a bad situation.

It was also amusing to see Ezgjan Alioski applaud the cardboard as he walked off the pitch, and in testing times like these, a little bit of levity goes a long way.

Great stuff all-round.
