Graham Smyth shares major update on Helder Costa after injury suggestions v Fulham

It was the perfect afternoon for Leeds United as they swept aside Fulham 3-0 at Elland Road to extend their gap to the play-offs to eight points in the Championship.

Goals from Patrick Bamford, Ezgjan Alioski and Jack Harrison made sure of all three points with Marcelo Bielsa making no changes from the defeat at Cardiff.

The only negative would be the possibility of injuries to both Bamford and Helder Costa who were replaced at half-time – two changes that saw Leeds dominate after.

Sky Sports’ commentary suggested that Costa was taken off after picking up a knock, and Bamford was spotted with an ice-pack on his knee while sitting in the stands.

Thankfully, those suggestions were nipped in the bud after the game with Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth sharing a major update on his personal Twitter account.

“Helder Costa not injured,” he wrote on Saturday evening.

“Pablo Hernandez brought off because they felt 45 minutes was enough.”

Costa was much more effective on Saturday than he was in the 2-0 defeat at Cardiff last weekend.

The Portuguese international used his pace to great effect for his assist for Bamford’s strike, getting his head down to burst past Harry Arter before putting the ball on a plate for the 26-year-old to strike home.

Bielsa doesn’t frequently make changes unless he is forced into them, so we expect Costa to start against Luton on Tuesday evening now his fitness has been clarified.
