Charlie Cresswell shares update on fractured eye socket in Leeds United injury news

Leeds United loanee Charlie Cresswell has shared an update for fans after fracturing his eye socket for Millwall at the weekend.

The 20-year-old, starting his 12th Lions league game in a row, was taken off during the goalless draw against West Brom on Saturday (1 April) following a horrible collision in an aerial challenge.

Taking to his Instagram page on Sunday, Cresswell wrote he was “gutted” at his fractured eye socket but that he would be back to action soon.

On Monday morning, he shared an image of the injury he sustained, accompanied by a message for supporters.

He wrote: “Thanks for your messages”.

Gutting

Cresswell has enjoyed a stunning loan spell while out at Millwall, so the injury comes a massive blow to both the Championship outfit and Leeds United.

The likes of Joe Gelhardt have shown that not all loan spells work out brilliantly, but the young defender has gone from strength to strength under Lions manager Gary Rowett this season.

Cresswell has been central to the club’s unlikely surge on the Championship playoff spots, and it would come as no surprise to see several suitors vying for his services in the summer.

Although the timeframe of his injury is unknown, it is unlikely that the 20-year-old will get too much more game time under his belt before the end of the season.

The Leeds United hierarchy will face a tough decision in the summer regarding the centre-backs future, with Phil Hay reporting (3 March) that his future at Elland Road was “uncertain” beyond the summer.

Either way, the injury is a gutting blow to the defender’s impeccable season.

In other Leeds United news, the club are ready to offer a new contract to one first-team star whose deal is up in 2024.
