Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak updates emerge ahead of Newcastle United v Leeds United - Keith Downie
Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson is doubtful against Leeds United, as reported by Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie.
Wilson returned to training on Thursday (29 December) after illness and Eddie Howe will make the decision on Friday (30 December) whether he should be included in the matchday squad.
Likewise, summer signing Alexander Isak is “very close” to a return and he should be back within the next few weeks, which means he won’t be available for tomorrow’s clash at St James’ Park.
“Decision will be made on Callum Wilson after training today – whether he can play against Leeds tomorrow. The England striker trained yesterday after illness,” wrote Downie on Twitter.
“Alexander Isak (is) very close to a return, and should be involved in the next couple of weeks.”
The news will come as a big boost for Leeds, but the Magpies still have enough quality in their ranks to hurt the Whites.
Newcastle are on a great run at the moment, winning their last six games in the Premier League, and are third in the table, just two points behind Manchester City.
The Whites, on the other hand, are heading into this match on the back of a 3-1 defeat against City in their previous game, and need to return to winning ways.
The defence remains the biggest issue for the Whites. Despite missing Patrick Bamford through injuries, the Whites can still score away from home.
But can they stay resolute at the back and stop the Magpies from scoring? That’s a big question.
Throughout the season, we have seen Leeds defenders have made numerous silly individual errors, and it seems like Jesse Marsch has no solution on how to cut those mistakes.
