Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez not convinced about joining Leeds
Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa is a huge fan of Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez, but the Uruguayan is not keen on a move.
According to Calciomercato, the 25-year-old does not seem convinced about moving to Elland Road this summer but is waiting until the end of the Copa America before making a final decision.
Inter Milan are also interested in recruiting Nandez, and it appears he could favour a move to San Siro instead.
Sky Sports Italy journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed last summer that Bielsa has always admired the midfielder, and it is not surprising that he has been linked with Leeds again.
“I see some rumours about Nandez from Cagliari,” the transfer expert told OddsChecker.
“He’s a player that Bielsa likes so much since he was in Boca juniors. But it’s not easy because Cagliari are going to ask €20million (£17.5million) to sign him.”
Blow
While Leeds are ready to make Nandez their most expensive signing of all time [Sardegna] by paying his release clause valued at £30.9million, it does not seem he is excited by the prospects.
Inter are offering Champions League football and a real chance to win silverware on a regular basis, and we have to admit that a move there would be more tempting for any player.
Leeds finished ninth in the Premier League last season, and while we could be challenging for trophies and playing in Europe soon, it is a project that could take a couple of seasons.
Nandez is apparently not a fan of waiting and has not seen moving from Cagliari to Elland Road as a step upwards.
Who can blame him, though? His side finished 16th in the Serie A table last season, four points above the relegation zone.
The chance to leave them and join one of the biggest teams on the planet is naturally appealing, and Bielsa should forget about this one.
Leeds could do with such a versatile player no doubt, given his ability to play everywhere in midfield, but we have to take our search elsewhere from the look of things.
