'By far the best' - Sky Sports pundit predicts Championship top two after latest twist

Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie has said that Leeds United and West Brom will get promoted in the automatic spots this season.

Leeds have moved back to the top of the table after the latest Championship fixtures, registering their fifth win-in-a-row by beating Huddersfield 2-0.

The twists keep coming though and both Fulham and West Brom dropped points last weekend.

Talking to Football League World, Hendrie said, “The top two that are there (at the moment), I’ve said this all along, you know Leeds and West Brom have been by far the best, I even said it as far back as Christmas that I can’t see anyone getting past them.

“The teams behind just haven’t capitalised on their slips ups, you know Brentford and then Fulham could’ve but the two at the top should sustain those two promotion spots.”

You won’t find any Leeds fans counting their chickens yet, after a rollercoaster ride in the Championship.

Leeds had an 11-point buffer back to third before Christmas but a slump in form saw this reduced to just goal difference.

Many Leeds fans were fearing the worst then and incredibly some were even criticising Marcelo Bielsa.

Thankfully, Leeds have come good just at the right time, with five wins and five clean sheets in consecutive games.

There are nine games left now and six wins would see Leeds promoted.

Next up is Cardiff before a massive clash against third-placed Fulham a week on Wednesday. Two wins from these games and even the most pessimistic Leeds fan might start believing.

Our verdict? We think Leeds could secure promotion as early as the Easter weekend when they host Stoke and then travel to Swansea.

One thing is certain – it’s getting closer with every win.
