BT Sport pundit slams Leeds United defender Liam Cooper v Tottenham Hotspur

Efan Ekoku has torn into Leeds United defender Liam Cooper for his challenge on Dejan Kulusevski v Tottenham Hotspur in the 4-3 loss on Saturday.

The Leeds captain looked to win the ball off the Spurs attacker inside the box, but made a rather amateurish effort to do so.

This saw Kulusevski play the ball towards the penalty spot and it saw Ben Davies score the second goal for Spurs from distance to make it 2-2.

Ekoku, a BT Sport pundit, said on the Premier League world feed (12/11, 16:10), “That’s a terrible attempt of a challenge, isn’t it by Cooper. Leeds pay the price.”

Not ideal

Cooper is loved and adored by his fans as he’s been on an emotional journey with the club and them.

However, there are moments where he does things like these and it can annoy even the most ardent of Whites supporters.

There was no need to make a half challenge like that without even realistically attempting to win the ball there.

He not only gave Kulusevski a better angle to find his pass, but also ended up losing his balance and falling to the floor – watching Spurs score and being helpless to stop it from going in.

Leeds have been exceptional going forward of late, but issues in defence continue for them and they need to be sorted out as soon as possible.

Hopefully, the American manages to get the most out of the players in the break for the World Cup and we certainly are expecting a more organised Leeds side on the other side of the break.

In other Leeds United news, the club have now put up a first-team player on sale as they expect top EFL sides to make a move for him in January.
