Brentford manager Thomas Frank delivers Leeds United relegation verdict after Liverpool loss

Brentford manager Thomas Frank says that he’s concerned for Leeds United and them potentially getting relegated if they do not tighten up their defence.

The Whites have conceded 11 goals in their last two games as they lost 5-1 to Crystal Palace and 6-1 to Liverpool – both at Elland Road.

They’re currently sitting in 16th place with 29 points and are still in the midst of a gruelling relegation battle.

Speaking on Premier League Productions’ The Final Word, Frank said [17/04. 21:55], “They need to think about GD [to avoid relegation]. Need to defend better.

“I would be concerned. The beauty of it is things change in the Premier League and you can go on and win a few games. What he [Javi Gracia] needs to ensure is that they have to be more solid at the back.”

Spot on

Despite being more defensive than Jesse Marsch and Marcelo Bielsa, the suggestion is that Gracia needs to tighten up his side more at the back.

The defenders have let him down on occasion but he cannot sit blaming the players as this is not a cheaply assembled squad.

Some of these players are regular starters for their countries and know the responsibility that comes with stepping on the field of play.

A change of system is perhaps what’s needed in order to bring the most of out this crop of players and it remains to be seen what that is.

It’s evident that this defensive setup isn’t working and he’s perhaps got to ask his players to press higher up the field.

They currently look extremely passive and even single errors lead to the entire shape being broken and then the opposition has an easy chance to find the back of the net.
