Ben Parker and Tom Hill hail Cody Drameh after goal for Leeds Under-23s v Burnley
Ben Parker and Tom Hill were blown away by Leeds United Under-23s defender Cody Drameh during Monday’s clash against Burnley at Thorp Arch.
It was the Whites’ final Premier League 2 fixture of the season after a sensational campaign that brought them title success and promotion into the top tier next season.
Drameh, 19, has been one of the key cornerstones of Mark Jackson’s victorious side and he netted the opener against the Clarets on Monday, leading Parker and Hill to wax lyrical about the right back during live coverage on LUTV.
Hill said: “He’s been a revelation.”
“We were only saying last week, weren’t we Tom, that the only thing to cap off his season was a goal,” Parker replied.
“It started with [Gaetano] Berardi, then a great weighted pass from Rodrigo. He timed it perfectly, and you have to say it’s a fantastic finish across the goalkeeper.
“I’m sure the players are delighted for him but you won’t find two more delighted people than ourselves for him getting on the scoresheet.
“We’ve loved watching him all season, he’s a fantastic player. He was on the bench for the first team this weekend which shows his progression.
“The goal caps off a wonderful season from an individual point of view.”
On the cusp
Drameh was named on the bench at Brighton on Saturday for the first time this season as he edges towards a senior squad debut.
He’s made tremendous strides since signing from Fulham in August and has been knocking at the first team door for a few months now.
His only issue is the man standing in his way, Luke Ayling, has been so impressive that Drameh has barely had a look in.
Ayling has been a Whites ever-present this season and Marcelo Bielsa is known to be fiercely loyal to his senior stars, but he’s obviously been impressed by the youngster enough to select him for a Premier League squad.
Drameh will be hoping to make his first senior appearance before the campaign’s conclusion but even if he doesn’t play this month, it’s only a matter of time before he makes his proper breakthrough and battles Ayling for a starting spot.
That’s how much talent he’s got in the locker, and the Premier League will see it soon enough.
