Leeds United were “serious” about a move for Fiorentina midfielder Erick Pulgar, according to La Nazione.
The Italian newspaper claimed that the Serie A club would be satisfied with a fee of around £13.5million for the South American.
Pulgar is also said to be happy with a move to the Premier League, as the Whites look to strengthen their midfield before October’s deadline.
Leeds want to strengthen their midfield, there are no questions about it, but it won’t be with the Chilean international.
The Athletic journalist Phil Hay shared a major update on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday surrounding Pulgar and Daniel James and it wasn’t good news.
“James they like but they’re dependent on Man Utd for that one,” he wrote. “Being told no on Pulgar.”

One off the list
Pulgar is one of three Serie A midfielders to have been linked with a move to Leeds before the October deadline.
The main one, of course, is Udinese’s, Rodrigo De Paul. One more name that has been mentioned is Atalanta’s Ruslan Malinovskyi.
Mike McGrath of the Telegraph reported that the Ukrainian international is worth nearly 50% of what Udinese value De Paul at £20million.
We would clearly prefer De Paul if given the option, with Udinese’s sporting director Pierpaolo Marino claiming that the Whites are yet to meet their £32million valuation yet.
Marcelo Bielsa wants a new midfielder who can add goal involvements, and no one has managed more in Serie A since 2018 than De Paul – he must remain the priority for Victor Orta.
