Leeds United forward Rodrigo earned his first start in the Premier League on Saturday in the 4-3 win against Fulham.
The Spaniard became the Whites’ record signing in the summer, moving from Valencia to Elland Road for £27million.
Rodrigo did complete 90 minutes in the Carabao Cup defeat against Hull City, but only managed 45 minutes in his first Premier League start.
The Spanish international also came off the bench against Liverpool, and made the worst possible start, giving away a penalty in the final five minutes.
Despite not scoring, Phil Hay of the Athletic has shared that Leeds are confident they will start to get the best out of Rodrigo sooner rather than later.
“Where Rodrigo is concerned, Leeds are confident that he will begin repaying his £27 million transfer fee shortly,” he wrote on Tuesday.
It hasn’t been the best start to life for Rodrigo, but Marcelo Bielsa and the Whites clearly have confidence that he will start firing on all cylinders soon.
According to WhoScored, the 29-year-old performed better against Fulham than he did at Anfield in his first cameo – proof he is slowly getting better.
It was clear to us that Rodrigo would prefer to be in that number nine role rather than the playmaker spot, but with Patrick Bamford on fire, that won’t be happening.
Playing centrally, Rodrigo averaged nearly four shots on goal per game in the Champions League last season according to WhoScored and that is the form Bielsa will want him to find.
It takes time to fit into the Leeds system, but the sooner Rodrigo does, the better off the Whites will be in the Premier League.
