Behind-the-scenes update emerges as Luke Ayling leaves Leeds United to join Middlesbrough
Luke Ayling approached Daniel Farke after the game against Peterborough to leave Leeds United and join Middlesbrough.
That’s according to the German himself, who claims that the Englishman handled the exit with class and style, putting an end to nearly a decade at Elland Road.
Speaking ahead of the Cardiff City clash on Saturday, 13 January, Farke admits he would’ve kept him at the club had he played him more.
Via Twitter, BBC’s Adam Pope quoted Farke as saying: “DF says Ayling came to him post Pboro & asked if he could go: He said he acted with “class & style”. “It was not an easy decision for me. I knew if I’d played him more, he’d probably have stayed. I try to act in best interests of club.”
End of an era
Ayling’s departure from Leeds marks the end of an era, leaving fans with a deep sense of gratitude for his immense contributions.
As a stalwart full-back, Ayling not only showcased exceptional skill on the pitch but also embodied the spirit and dedication synonymous with Leeds United.
From crucial goals to unforgettable celebrations, Ayling etched his name into the club’s history during the promotion-winning campaign and subsequent Premier League stint.

His class extended beyond the field, with Ayling consistently displaying exemplary conduct off the pitch, earning admiration for his community involvement and resilience, notably in overcoming personal challenges.
The move to Middlesbrough on loan appears a fitting decision, allowing Ayling to continue playing at a high level while providing Leeds the opportunity to reshape their squad.
He was ever so classy in his final days at the club too and that sums up why he’s such a well-liked person behind the scenes and among fans.
In other Leeds United news, an international player linked with a move to Elland Road is unhappy at his current club and could be on his way out in the January transfer window.
