‘Bargain’, ‘Fabulous’ – Many Leeds fans thrilled to bits with ‘Superb’ transfer update
Leeds United fans are absolutely thrilled with the announcement that Illan Meslier has joined on a permanent three-year deal from Lorient.
Meslier, 20, joined the Whites on a season-long loan from the French club last summer to serve as Marcelo Bielsa’s second-choice goalkeeper.
Leeds have now confirmed in an update on their official Twitter account that Meslier has signed a full-time contract at Elland Road that ties him down there until 2023.
Meslier had only played once before Kiko Casilla was hit with an eight-match ban for racism earlier this year.
Even when Casilla became available again, Bielsa stuck with the impressive French shot-stopper by playing him in two of the three games Casilla could have played in.
Meslier kept seven clean sheets in his 11 appearances on loan at Elland Road and given his age and the potential he’s shown, it is no shock at all to see the club sign him up permanently.
Leeds fans are understandably buzzing with the news, with one of them dubbing it as a “fabulous” deal for the Yorkshire giants as they prepare for life in the Premier League.
Here is a selection of their tweets:
It remains to be seen what role Meslier will play at Leeds next season but we do not see him being the first-choice goalkeeper.
Leeds have already been linked with a couple of ‘keepers with Premier League experience with Southampton’s Angus Gunn [Phil Hay] and Manchester City’s Claudio Bravo [En Cancha] among them.
In other Leeds United news, Leeds have tabled an offer for this striker.
