Leeds table offer to sign centre-forward who scored 200 goals for most recent club - report
Leeds United have been in touch with Edinson Cavani to offer him a deal to join them on a free transfer, according to ESPN Uruguay.
The South American broadcaster claims that Cavani, 33, is willing to listen to Leeds’ proposal after Marcelo Bielsa led them to automatic promotion back to the Premier League this season.
Cavani has been without a club since being released by Paris Saint-Germain at the end of last month.
The Uruguay international scored 200 goals in 301 appearances during his spell at PSG but is now on the hunt for a new club to take him on board ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.
Could Leeds be that club?
It definitely seems as though Leeds are keen to sign Cavani.
Even chairman Andrea Radrizzani admitted in a recent interview that he has thought about signing the Uruguayan goal machine.
Radrizzani did admit that he hadn’t spoken to Bielsa about signing Cavani as of yet and any signing that Leeds make needs to be approved by the first-team manager.
We cannot see him turning down a proven goalscorer like Cavani but this is Bielsa and we all know that he does things a lot more differently than other managers in English football.
The season has only just finished and Bielsa is probably still celebrating ahead of a much-needed break.
After that, we expect him and Victor Orta to start making serious moves in the transfer market but given Cavani’s CV and the fact he’s a free agent, there are likely to be a lot of clubs interested in him.
The lack of a fee could also make the deal financially viable even with high wages.
Leeds might have to move quickly on this one.
