Barcelona made a last-ditch attempt to sign Leeds United forward Rodrigo this week, according to Joti Jorda.

The Spanish insider with over 300,000 followers on Twitter shared the news of the unexpected approach this afternoon.

Ronald Koeman made contact with the Whites in search of a number nine, but saw the door metaphorically slammed in his face.

Speaking on El Chiringuito TV, Jota shared the list of strikers that the Spanish giants had made contact for.

"Barca have been making moves for many weeks looking for a nine," he said.

"Among others, for example, they have spoken to Cavani, and last week Mateo Alemany was in Manchester asking for Sterling. The answer was no.

"He was also in Leeds asking for Rodrigo, but again the answer was no."

Emphatic.

It would be interesting to see the response of Rodrigo to this news.

Even the striker himself would admit that it hasn't been the smoothest of starts to life in England and in the Premier League.

There have been glimpses of big promise, but most of those have arrived from the number nine role rather than behind Patrick Bamford.

Bielsa simply can't drop the England international now, and that may have affected Rodrigo, who once again failed to catch the eye at Burnley on Sunday.

Something big needs to change this season, or we could find ourselves in a position where approaches such as this one are accepted next year rather than swiped away.

Time will certainly tell.
