Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah makes decision on future amid Leeds United interest
Leeds United target Eddie Nketiah has decided to extend his stay at Arsenal by signing a long-term deal at the North London club.
According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, the 23-year-old was eyed by the Whites as they are looking for attacking reinforcements this summer.
However, they will have to look elsewhere as their former loanee has now penned a new contract which Fabrizio Romano claims to be until 2027.
He wrote, “Arsenal update. Eddie Nketiah has just signed new contract until June 2027, deal completed and sealed today after verbal agreement days ago. Official statement soon.
“Nketiah turned down multiple bids from Bundesliga and Premier League clubs to stay at Arsenal.”
Leeds surely need to sign a striker this summer, but not getting Nketiah could actually be a blessing in disguise for him.
He wasn’t that impressive on loan under Marcelo Bielsa and the fans would not have been overly excited had he returned to Elland Road.
Even at Arsenal, he wasn’t firing on all cylinders until the final few months of the season which would be seen by most as a purple patch.
However, with the number of strikers leaving them, it made sense to tie a younger one down to a new deal, but Leeds certainly deserve better.
They need a striker who will be consistent for nine months of the season and not just towards the back end of it when most teams have nothing left to play for.
This minor setback will certainly not dissuade Victor Orta in his quest to sign a potent striker this summer for the Whites.
