Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney a doubt to face Leeds United after calf injury in Scotland win v Spain

Arsenal could be without Kieran Tierney for the first time this season when they face Leeds United on Saturday after he suffered a calf problem with Scotland.

The left-back got an assist in their 2-0 win over Spain on Tuesday (28 March), but was substituted late on with an injury after 75 minutes.

And now according to injury expert Ben Dinnery he could miss the clash at the Emirates with Leeds (1 April) as both teams return to Premier League action for the first time following the international break.

“Kieran Tierney’s 100 per cent PL availability record (2022-23) is under threat after he picked up an apparent calf injury during last night’s win over Spain,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account (29 March).

“The Arsenal full-back will be fully assessed on his return to London Colney following his withdrawal on 75 minutes.”

Leeds need all the help they can get right now on the pitch, and while Tierney being out injured is a big help it’s not perfect considering he is second choice right now.

Tierney has been behind Oleksandr Zinchenko in the pecking order and the Ukrainian is fit and ready to go, meaning Leeds will still be dealing with a very strong Arsenal side.

The international break hasn’t worked out too well for the Whites with Wilfried Gnonto and Max Wober picking up injuries that are likely to keep them out of the Arsenal game and others going forward.

For now though, we need to focus on having the players we do have performing at their best. We need points and after picking up the win over Wolves last time out, losing would make it incredibly difficult to pick up momentum once again and push on.

It’s a boost nonetheless thought and we can work with the knowledge that he won’t be available, but now we need to take advantage of it.
