Leeds United have announced that Archie Gray along with nine other youngsters have penned scholarship deals at the club.
The 16-year-old is one of the highly-rated sensations at the club and he has committed his short-term future to the Elland Road outfit.
The scholarship includes a variety of educational programmes like the BTEC diploma and A Levels, which will help extend their skillset both on and off the pitch.
Gray is one player who burst onto the scene as a 15-year-old and is well-admired by the Leeds fans despite not making a senior debut.
He has been spotted with the squad and in first-team training as well so one would expect him to make his senior bow sooner rather than later.
From all the 10 players, his name is the most recognisable and he’s undoubtedly the best among the lot.
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp waxed lyrical over him on November 21 when he said, “Archie Gray, 15 years of age, has travelled with the Leeds squad today. He is going to be a tremendous young player, from the famous Gray family,”
As a 15-year-old he’s played for the under-23s with players at least six years older than him and still managed to showcase his brilliance.
Whether or not he’s first loaned out before being made a bench player, remains to be seen, but we would love to see him get a taste of senior football at a Championship club as he’s certainly at that level.
He should also be a part of the under-21s side that take on Southampton on Friday at Elland Road and seeing him play with some of the senior players will give a better idea as to what his level is.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites have reached an agreement to sign a left-back, according to his agent.
