Archie Gray and Jamie Shackleton axed by Daniel Farke as Glen Kamara makes first start - Leeds United predicted XI vs Millwall

Daniel Farke is predicted to make three changes to his Leeds United starting XI for the trip to face Millwall after the international break, but be unable to make more he would like.

With players returning from injury and new signings having been in action over the international break the German is tipped to switch two defenders and one midfielder out from the side which drew 0-0 with Sheffield Wednesday on 2 September.

Teenage fan-favourite Archie Gray has been revelation to begin his senior career, starting every game so far, but that was always going to be unsustainable for the 17-year-old who Farke said had a slight injury as he was kept from England under-19s duty in his prematch press conference on Friday (25 September).

He could be replaced in the midfield by late-window signing from Rangers Glen Kamara after the Finnish international built up some fitness while away with his country, and is now set for his full Leeds United debut.

Farke also revealed that both Liam Cooper and Sam Byram are back in full training following injury lay-offs so are predicted to come into the back-line in place of Pascal Struijk and surprise early-season star Jamie Shackleton, who has already covered multiple positions and could be in line for a new contract.

Djed Spence would have been very likely to make his first start since arriving from Tottenham in place of Luke Ayling but the manager reported a ligament issue picked up in training this week has left the loanee a “major doubt”.

The personnel for the attack largely picks itself with Patrick Bamford still not fit to return, as big-money summer signing Joel Piroe and club-record January arrival Georginio Rutter should both start up front.

After Piroe’s afternoon against the Owls in a withdrawn role was highly uneventful he is predicted to move forward and operate as the goalscorer up top he was signed to be, with Rutter playing just off him.

Willy Gnonto and Crysencio Summerville were the best players in the goalless draw last time out and should remain on the wings.

Ethan Ampadu is likely to remain in the centre of midfield to keep some continuity, and hold Ilia Gruev out of the starting line up for now.

With Byram coming in on the left of defence, Cooper in the middle, and Ayling keeping his place on the right thanks to Spence’s injury, Joe Rodon is expected to round out the back four in front of regular starter in goal Illan Meslier.

Shackleton and Charlie Cresswell will hope to see action off the bench having spent last season on loan at Millwall, while deadline day arrival Jaidon Anthony could make his debut as a substitute.

In other Leeds United news, a Whites ace has been told to “grow up” after making recent comments about a former player.
