Djed Spence 'major doubt' with two more out, Liam Cooper and Sam Byram return - Early Leeds United team news vs Millwall

Patrick Bamford is still out for the next three games and Junior Firpo will also be unavailable for the match between Leeds United and Millwall, Daniel Farke has revealed.

The Whites boss shared in his pre-match press conference on Friday (15 September) that loan signing from Tottenham Djed Spence is also a “major doubt” after he picked up a “knock” in training this week, but a number of other players are back from injury.

Club captain Liam Cooper and full-back Sam Byram are both back in training and should be in the squad for the Championship match on Saturday.

True starting point

The international break provided much-needed respite after the exhaustion of the summer and the transfer window, with the Whites looking like they needed it as they strained to break down Sheffield Wednesday on 2 September.

With some stability now ahead, for the next three and a half months at least, Farke and his squad can finally focus on building some consistency in the Championship as they look to push up the table.

The Lions are a point better off than the Whites after five games and sit three places above them in 12th so the visitors will be looking to overtake their opponents with a win at The Den.

They will be familiar surroundings for both Charlie Cresswell and surprise key early-season key man Jamie Shackleton who both spent last season on loan in South London.

On paper Leeds United came out of the transfer window with a solid looking squad, with potential holes at areas such as left-back and number 10, but if they can get into a rhythm there looks like enough to start picking up results.

The sooner the better though after a tumultuous first month of the season has left the Whites playing catch-up again and the early kick-off on Sunday would be a great place to start.

In other Leeds United news, an Elland Road has been slammed by a pundit and told to “grow up” over his complaints regarding recent controversy.
