Andy Dunn blasts Andrea Radrizzani ‘nonsense’ at Leeds United amid ‘bizzare’ scenario at Elland Road

The Sunday People’s Andy Dunn has blasted Andrea Radrizzani after the Leeds United chief attempted to use Elland Road as collateral in his bid to buy Sampdoria.

The Athletic reported on 1 June that Radrizzani had offered Elland Road as security for a £26m bank loan.

Writing in his latest column for The Sunday People, Dunn was scathing of the Italian’s midweek antics in West Yorkshire.

“It is the business of Leeds United fans to wonder if this sort of distraction has meant the Elland Road hierarchy has taken its eye off the ball and become complicit in relegation to the Championship,” he wrote (pg 57, 4 June).

“After all, the bizarre decision to hire Sam Allardyce for four matches proved to be a predictably poor one. Radrizzani also went on to suggest people are trying to turn Leeds supporters against him, which is nonsense.

“Because he’s doing a decent job of that himself.”

No friends

It’s fair to say Radrizzani has made no friends over the course of the last week. The Italian’s decision to use Elland Road as leverage has alienated large parts of the fanbase. He’s now at a point where he has to build bridges – and fast.

There’s a lot up in the air. The 49ers’ proposed takeover appeared to be gathering pace, but all has gone quiet on that front in recent days. A sporting director is also required. Footballing decisions will have to be made, and, at present, the club is at a standstill.

Furthermore, a manager to replace Sam Allardyce should be near the top of the to-do list. The likes of Steven Gerrard and Scott Parker have been mentioned. However, no approach has been made as of yet. The fanbase will be hopeful of work taking place behind the scenes.

However, the longer stones are left unturned, more angst and anger will emerge from the Elland Road faithful, and rightly so.

In other Leeds United news, the future of one Whites-linked manager is now up in the air after a high-level resignation at his current club.
