Leeds United handed Gaetano Berardi a new one-year contract at Elland Road on Friday evening, despite his injury.
The Whites warrior has been out of action since rupturing his ACL in the 3-1 win at Derby back in July – an injury leaving him out for nine months.
Berardi has been completing his rehabilitation with Rob Price at Thorp Arch despite having no deal over the summer, something which has finally changed.
The Leeds fans and squad were delighted with the gesture shown by their club, and Andrea Radrizzani also reacted to the news late last night.
Writing on his personal Twitter account, Radrizzani backed Berardi to be back showing what it means to be Leeds “very soon.”
“Welcome back! (Oops you never left),” he wrote. “Very soon you will be back showing what means being Leeds.”

Let’s not get too excited with this one, Berardi still has a very long road ahead of him in his recovery from this massive set back.
With the nine-month recovery in mind, the experienced defender still has six months left before he will be back out on the grass at Thorp Arch.
That will take us to April, one month before the Premier League season ends for the Whites and there will be some with their fingers crossed for an early return.
Berardi himself claimed he is just aiming to return to training first, with the recovery from an ACL not happening overnight.
