Barry Douglas sealed his Leeds United exit on Friday, confirming a season-long loan switch to Blackburn Rovers.

With the Scottish defender in the final year of his contract at Elland Road, he will be free to leave on a free transfer at the end of this campaign.

It never quite happened for Douglas at Leeds, but he has left a massive impact on everyone at the club since joining from Wolves two years ago.

Both Andrea Radrizzani and Victor Orta delivered messages to Douglas on Twitter on Friday, sharing positive messages with their former player.

Douglas took to his personal Twitter account to respond to both of the senior figures at Elland Road, thanking Radrizzani.

His message to Orta was much more heartfelt though, labelling the Spaniard a “true gem” after the director of football shared an open letter.

“The true gem of a guy Victor Orta, I salute you,” he wrote.

There were big expectations of Douglas after his move Wolves was confirmed, but his two years were flooded with injuries.

Douglas only started six games last season, with an added nine appearances of the bench and it was clear his time was coming to an end at Elland Road.

Marcelo Bielsa also commented on his exit on Friday, claiming he felt sorry for the fact that he had chosen Stuart Dallas, Ezgjan Alioski and Leif Davis ahead of him.

This is an opportunity that Douglas couldn’t pass up, and it is great to see that there has been no bad blood between all parties.
