Ally McCoist predicts Leeds United change under Jesse Marsch after hearing interview

Ally McCoist has backed Jesse Marsch to change the system at Leeds United after he replaced Marcelo Bielsa on Monday.

The talkSPORT pundit insisted that the Whites must become more defensive, suggesting that an extra man could be put in midfield.

The American was hailed after his first interview for saying all the right things as he looks to keep Leeds in the Premier League.

Speaking live on talkSPORT this morning, McCoist insisted the task ahead was massive for Marsch and his side.

“They’re all big for Leeds now,” he said. “Doesn’t matter who they are playing, they are all big.

“I’ve got to say, I don’t know an awful lot about him. His interview, he is saying the right things, because he does appreciate that Marcelo Bielsa did a fantastic job at Leeds.

“He just wants to continue the good work, I just think they have to go more defensive, particularly when they’re playing the Liverpools and the Manchester Citys.

“They’re going to have to do something different, I loved watching Leeds with their style and freedom and their fearless approach, however, nine times out of ten, if you go and take teams with better players on, they’ll beat you.

“I just think they have to be more defensive, whether they put an extra man in the middle of the park, or bring an extra man back – they have to change something.”

Needed?

This is it, there are now no excuses.

Andrea Radrizzani has made what he called the toughest decision he has had to ever make since arriving at Elland Road, and he is desperate for results.

If this backfires and we end up in the bottom three, there will be serious questions posed towards the board and their handling of everything since the summer.

Marsch has to be backed by the fans, and he no doubt will be, and changes are to be expected in this side.

We were far too open at the back and in midfield against Spurs, and the middle of the park is where we need to solve first.

Having Adam Forshaw and Stuart Dallas sitting in front of the defence sounds perfect, and giving them strict instructions to defend first may help that back four feel less exposed.

We are so intrigued to see what happens on Saturday against Leicester, and if Marsch changes things and gets the three points, he could be a hero already.
