Alan Shearer thrilled by Leeds footage in 3-1 win against Burnley
Alan Shearer was left thrilled by the clear difference in Leeds United after their huge 3-1 win over Burnley on Sunday.
The Whites dominated Burnley at Elland Road, picking up a vital three points in their Premier League season.
Shearer singled out Burnley creating their own problems by being too fancy, something Leeds didn’t do for once as they looked to clear the ball quicker.
Speaking on Match of the Day 2, Shearer was thrilled by the difference between the two sides at Elland Road.
“What the difference here, watch what Leeds do,” he said.
“Get rid of it, up into the final third of Burnley and Tarkowski tries to play a clever little pass, not the right area to do that in the final third when Leeds are putting you under pressure.
“This is for Harrison’s goal, keeper makes a decent save but the rebound falls nice to him, that’s a very good finish.”
Although at times it was slow at the back when in possession, there were few if not any occasions where a mistake was nearly made.
One of the most frustrating parts of watching Leeds sometimes if their ability to create their own problems by giving the ball away in their own third.
Thankfully, it was Burnley who were doing just that yesterday (2nd January) and we took full advantage of that.
Shearer was right to single out the balls being cleared and put in behind as it was something that we exploited all afternoon.
The Clarets back four were slow and sluggish, something that the likes of Raphinha consistently took advantage.
With another break from Premier League action coming, expect another all-action display at West Ham in two weeks’ time – after we go there in the FA Cup, of course.
