Alan Pardew mocks Leeds United live on air amid new Southampton verdict
Alan Pardew has mocked Leeds United after losing 1-0 to Southampton in the Championship play-off final on Sunday (26 May).
The two sides were separated by a single Adam Armstrong goal as the two sides went head-to-head at Wembley Stadium in an attempt to secure promotion to the Premier League.
The Whites have now been condemned to another season in the Championship, having missed out on automatic promotion to Leicester City and Ipswich Town, and falling short in the play-off final.
After singing a rendition of ‘When the Saints Go Marching In’ via talkSPORT on Sunday (26 May), Pardew said: “I’ve got nothing against Leeds because it’s a not a great day for them.
“But great for Southampton – great club, great city, and chuffed to see them back in the Premier League.”
Leeds United fall at final hurdle against Southampton
Having earned 90 points across the Championship season, Leeds will feel extremely hard done by to miss out on promotion to the Premier League, especially in the play-off final.
With Daniel Farke’s previous experience with Norwich City in the division, it seemed highly unlikely that they would fail to bounce back up to the top tier, especially after a superb run of results in the season.
However, Leicester and Ipswich were fierce competitors, and with Leeds unable to beat the Saints in three attempts this season, the club will need at least one more season to claim promotion.

Of course, given the ongoing financial issues at Elland Road, it has been predicted that multiple big-name players will be leaving the club as soon as the summer transfer window opens.
Farke, if he is still manager next season, will have a much harder task to lead the Whites out of the division with a weakened side after their promotion hopes were crushed on Sunday.
