Alan Hutton comments on Rodrigo goal for Leeds v Norwich

Leeds United earned a 2-1 victory against Norwich City in the Premier League clash on Sunday at Carrow Road.

After a dull first half, the game sprung into life when Raphinha scored a magnificent goal, dancing past defenders with ease and elegance.

Norwich restored parity within two minutes through 19-year-old defender Andrew Omobamidele who headed home from a corner.

However, two minutes later, Leeds again regained the lead, with Spaniard Rodrigo scoring yet again.

The 30-year-old scored in his previous league game against Wolves, and he found the net once more, this time with a long-range strike.

Alan Hutton has described the goal as a “great strike”, and criticised Norwich defending for allowing Rodrigo to have a shot on target.

“You have to look at the defending. Kabak gets caught in defence. You don’t want Rodrigo running at your back line. Great strike from 30 yards; Krul needs a stronger arm to push it wide,” he told BBC Sport.

The goal

Kalvin Phillips passed on to Rodrigo who lashed out a thunderbolt strike from 30 yards out.

Hutton is absolutely spot on here. Rodrigo was not closed down rather he was allowed to pick his spot and have a go at the target.

The defending from Ozan Kabak was really poor, to say the least. He made no attempt to make an interception or block the shot. It was very casual from him.

At the same time, Tim Krul should have done better. It was a goalkeeping error from the Dutchman. He was beaten by the pace of the shot when he should be easily parrying the ball away.

Leeds returned to winning ways, finally, and there are plenty of positives from this game. We have some tough matches coming up, and hopefully, this will help pick up momentum.

The form of Rodrigo is also pleasing, but in terms of overall performance, he still needs to do a lot more. At least, he is scoring crucial goals.
