Leeds United player ratings v Norwich City

Leeds United won for just the second time in the Premier League this season as they beat Norwich City 2-1 at Carrow Road.

All three of the goals came in a period of four minutes in the second half with Raphinha getting the first in the 56th minute.

Andrew Omobamidele headed in Norwich’s equaliser two minutes later before a shocker from goalkeeper Tim Krul allowed Rodrigo to net Leeds’ winner from outside of the penalty area.

Here, MOT Leeds News has rated the players out of 10 for their performances in East Anglia.

Illan Meslier – 5

Meslier didn’t look at his best again and his mix-up with Jamie Shackleton led to the corner that Norwich scored from. Meslier’s form has dipped lately. Worryingly, there’s not really anyone applying pressure on his spot in the starting line-up.

Jamie Shackleton – 5

As mentioned above, his indecision led to the corner that Norwich scored from. He really didn’t offer much and we’d have much rather seen Cody Drameh play again at right-back.

Diego Llorente – 5

Llorente’s worst performance in a Leeds shirt? The Spanish centre-back didn’t look comfortable at all at Carrow Road and he lost Omobamidele at the corner when he scored. We expect way better from Llorente.

Liam Cooper – 5

When was the last time we were really impressed by Cooper? He wasn’t awful against Norwich but the clumsy Scotland international still looks capable of shooting himself in the foot and allowing teams to score. Better teams than Norwich would have taken advantage of him.

Stuart Dallas – 7

Dallas had a slow and fairly quiet second half but was superb after the break and played a big role in Leeds securing their second Premier League win of the season. We haven’t seen Dallas look himself that much this season but that was one of his better performances, especially after the break.

Pascal Struijk – 7

Struijk’s been solid for Leeds this season and was in good form again on Sunday at Norwich. He played brilliantly in front of the Leeds defence. Without him and with the way Llorete and Cooper played, we could have lost that game.

Kalvin Phillips – 6

Phillips still seems to be taking his time to get back up to speed after his recent injury setback. His passing was a bit lack sure and he did okay off the ball too but we would like to see Phillips get back to his best as soon as possible.

Raphinha – 8 (MOTM)

We’re running out of ways to describe Raphinha. The Brazilian scored a wonderful goal for Leeds to break the deadlock in the second half. He was constantly a threat to the Norwich defence and was easily Leeds’ best player. Only criticism was that he knocked Bielsa over on the sidelines.

Daniel James – 5

James finally got a direct goal contribution when he assisted Raphinha’s goal but it wasn’t really a goal that was crafted by the Welshman. James is still yet to convince us he was worth £30million. Leeds needed to spend that money in their central midfield and at full-back, not on the wings.

Jack Harrison – 4

Where’s the Harrison of last season gone? The former Manchester City winger has really struggled since making his loan stay at Elland Road a permanent one. It could be to do with the rib injury that’s niggling away at him but if that’s the case, he needs some time off. Basically anonymous at Norwich.

Rodrigo – 6

If you don’t buy a ticket to the lottery, you won’t win it. Rodrigo’s shot had no right to beat Tim Krul but the Norwich goalkeeper’s howler effectively handed the Spanish forward his second goal in as many Premier League matches. Other than that, it was a fairly poor display by Rodrigo.

Substitutes:

Cody Drameh (on for Shackleton ’71) – 5

Booked not long after coming on.

Adam Forshaw (on for James 77′) – N/A
