Adam Forshaw ‘very likely’ to be given new Leeds United contract this season

Leeds United midfielder Adam Forshaw is “very likely” set to be offered a new contract by the club this season.

That’s according to Leeds Live, who share that the 30-year-old is set for a new “two or three” year deal at Elland Road.

Forshaw’s current deal runs out at the end of this campaign, and there were serious doubts over his future before this renaissance after his injury.

Writing in their latest report, Leeds Live shared the state of play with regards to contracts in the current squad.

“The picture is very different now with the 30-year-old going through a real renaissance ever since he started his first game back against Leicester seven weeks ago,” they wrote.

“Since then, he has played almost every minute in the seven matches that have succeeded the draw against the Foxes and has arguably been the best player in the team in that time.

“While a new, long-term contract wouldn’t be a wise decision, it is very likely that he will be offered a two or three-year extension between now and the end of the season.”

No brainer?

It feels strange to be talking about this as it is an easy decision, with Forshaw’s comeback a huge boost to the club.

People would have laughed at the start of this season if you would have suggested that Marcelo Bielsa would have nearly a full starting XI of injured players but Forshaw was one holding the fort down in midfield.

The message was clear from many regarding Forshaw, if you want a new contract, go out and prove that you deserve one.

There won’t be many, if any, who don’t think he has done that in recent weeks and months, with some of his performances stunning.

That is a huge credit to him as he keeps up and continues to flourish in this Marcelo Bielsa system, who would be more than happy to recommend a new deal.

Looks like he could be rewarded soon.
