'Absolutely crucial' - Chris Sutton delivers Leeds promotion verdict after 3-0 win v Fulham
Chris Sutton has insisted that Leeds United have all but sealed promotion to the Premier League after their win against Fulham on Saturday.
The BBC pundit claimed that the win over the Cottagers was crucial after the disappointing defeat against Cardiff last weekend.
The Whites stormed back to the top of the Championship after the win at Elland Road with goals from Patrick Bamford, Ezgjan Alioski and Jack Harrison sealing the three points.
Sutton backed the Whites for promotion after the win, pointing to the second-half as something that will give the squad a real confidence boost.
“Leeds aren’t going to mess this one up,” he said on BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.
“I thought today [Saturday] was absolutely crucial, really big because you lost at Cardiff and I’m a big fan of the way Leeds play football.
“Second half, you came out and all the style was back and saw the game out comfortably and I think that would give the whole team real confidence for the rest of the run-in.”
Everyone involved at Leeds from the fans to the players knows that Saturday’s win against Fulham was a massive step towards promotion.
After last season though, we all know that nothing is guaranteed and that is why it is great to see each player insist they’re taking it one game at a time to avoid complacency.
Prediction expert Nate Silver shares that confidence though, with the Whites currently having an 81% chance of winning the title – that win was a massive step [FiveThirtyEight].
