49ers not far from talks as Che Adams transfer to Leeds United never ruled out - Phil Hay

Leeds United trying to sign Southampton striker Che Adams cannot be totally discounted in the January transfer window, according to Phil Hay.

The Athletic journalist has shared that the 49ers Enterprises are never too far away from talks anymore at Elland Road, with two new transfers eyed next month.

Adams could be one of those arriving, with the Whites not exactly said to be “cash-rich” and the Scotland international has been discussed before by the club.

Writing in his latest piece for The Athletic, Hay shared the latest state of play from Elland Road as January quickly approaches after the Christmas period.

“These days, with its own share in the club at just under 50 per cent, minority stakeholder 49ers Enterprises is never far from discussions either,” he wrote.

“The interaction between the different parties tends to be good — but Leeds are not an especially cash-rich club and money is something they are always conscious of.

“Never totally discount Southampton forward Che Adams, either — he’s been discussed at Elland Road before.”

Never ruled out?

This isn’t one of those that looks as though it will blow us all away, but that may be the state that the Whites are currently in, with a bloated market expected after the World Cup.

Players like Adams may prove to be the difference – they have Premier League experience and he wasn’t under the nose of every single scout in the world over in Qatar.

Victor Orta has always had a type of player he likes, and that name never seems to disappear once it is linked once with a move to Elland Road.

Adams is certainly in that category and depending on the thoughts of the Saints’ new boss Nathan Jones, he could be available next month for the right price.

One thing for certain is that a new number nine is desperately needed in West Yorkshire, and if that doesn’t happen, there will be an uproar from the stands – that is for sure.
