Mark Lawrenson predicts result of Leeds United clash v Manchester City
Mark Lawrenson is not predicting any surprises when Leeds United host Manchester City in the first Premier League game after the World Cup.
The Whites will host the champions at Elland Road Wednesday (28 December) after a six-week hiatus of action due to the World Cup, and will be hopeful of getting off to a hot start in their battle against relegation.
But with several injuries and with City having some key players like Erling Haaland well rested after the break, Lawrenson told Paddy Power (22 December) that he doesn’t see any surprises and predicted a 2-0 win for the visitors.
“Erling Haaland will be champing at the bit and Kevin De Bruyne wasn’t at the World Cup for very long so Manchester City are in good shape,” he wrote.
“I’ll go 2-0 to City in this one, a straightforward win. Leeds will give a load of effort and application but no, no surprises here.”
There is no surprise that pundits are picking Manchester City to get the three points when they come to Elland Road next week, but the same was said when we went to Anfield too.
We all remember how that ended though, with Crysencio Summerville finding the back of the net in injury time as we secured all three points and headed back to Yorkshire.
The team have got a lot of injuries in the first-team right now though, and while Marsch has admitted that he’s hopeful of seeing a lot of those players return in time for the game it hasn’t been good for preparation.
City on the other hand just claimed a 3-2 win over Liverpool to get their key players back in form and with minutes in their legs ahead of the game, so things are all stacked up against the Whites.
A win or positive result of any kind will definitely be a surprise, but it would be just like us to be able to pull it off.
