49ers chiefs jet in to Elland Road for Leeds United January transfer talks

Paraag Marathe, the vice-chairman of 49ers Enterprises, was recently in Yorkshire to hold talks with Leeds United board members over January transfer plans, as reported by Leeds Live.

There has been a lot of speculation going on about whether the 49ers would become the majority shareholder in the club, but right now they are aware that the upcoming January window is important for the Whites.

Marathe, who makes a semi-regular appearance at Elland road, and Jed York, 49ers’ chief executive officer, were both present in the director box during last weekend’s win over Bournemouth.

Crucial

Prior to the game against Liverpool, it felt like Jesse Marsch could be one game away from getting the sack. The pressure was building, and the fans had vented their frustrations.

However, back-to-back wins in the Premier League (against Liverpool and Bournemouth) have lifted some of the pressure, and the Whites are in a better position than where they were a couple of weeks back.

Leeds are 12th in the Premier League and they face Tottenham Hotspur away from home in their next game.

The summer transfer was massive for the club, where the Whites brought in several new faces and lost two of their key players in Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips.

The Whites still need to bring in quality players in January in order to break into the top half of the table. Signing a striker could be a priority.

Patrick Bamford keeps picking up freakish injuries, while Marsch clearly sees Wilfried Gnonto as a pacey no 10, rather than a conventional centre-forward.

Rodrigo has chipped in with goals, but clearly, the Whites need a reliable striker upfront. Let’s hope, Marsch will be provided with the funds to bring in players of his choice, provided it’s well within the club’s budget.

In other Leeds United news, a European club has confirmed they’ll be doing an official farewell for a player who’s been signed by the Whites.
