What Leeds fans did to Harry Wilson in Fulham win after Elland Road transfer failure

Harry Wilson continues to be linked with a transfer to Leeds United.

Leeds tried to sign Wilson in the summer, but a move did not materialise, but they could try again in the near future.

The ex-Liverpool man is out of contract at the end of the season, and Marco Silva has admitted he does not know whether the Leeds-linked man will stay.

However, what the Elland Road supporters did to the 28-year-old in the 1-0 win on 17 January could come back to haunt them.

What did Leeds fans do to Harry Wilson?

Fulham backed out of selling Wilson to Leeds on deadline day in the summer transfer window, and it seems that the Whites faithful have not forgiven that.

The Welshman was booed when he went to take his side’s first corner of the contest, with supporters making their feelings known about the failed transfer pursuit.

Writing in his unseen moments column in the Yorkshire Evening Post on 18 January, Graham Smyth said: “Harry Wilson comically booed by the West Stand and Kop as he trotted over to take Fulham’s first corner, for the crime of not being sold to Leeds on deadline day.”

Why Leeds need to sign Wilson despite boos

Wilson would take Daniel Farke‘s side to another level, and take the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Noah Okafor with him.

Wilson has seven goals and four assists in 21 top-flight games this season, and would add a new dimension to the attack in LS11.

The Peacocks need to add players like the Craven Cottage ace if they are to go from survival hopefuls to one of the established elite sides next season.

The 49ers Enterprises group should go all out to convince Wilson that a move to Yorkshire is the right one, rather than extending his contract in London, even though the supporters heckled him when he played against them.

It would be exactly the type of ambitious move that the side needs to push themselves on after a solid first campaign back in the top-flightof the English game.

Whether a move for Wilson happens remains to be seen, but it would be a very clever one if they could get him for free, or even a reduced fee this month.

The supporters would surely change their feelings pretty quickly if he were playing in the famous white shirt, and begin to love him.
