Watford goalkeeper Bachmann furious as Leeds United sprinklers get him before Elland Road shocker
Watford goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann was furious with the Leeds United groundsmen after he was caught by the sprinklers at Elland Road.
The Hornets goalkeeper was far from happy on the pitch ahead of the match, as footage shared via X [@wbahazz] caught Bachmann arguing with the groundsmen after being sprayed by the sprinklers.
Bachmann set the tone for his evening with the altercation, he conceded two goals inside the first 10 minutes courtesy of Largie Ramazani and Brendon Aaronson in the 2-1 win for the Whites.
Leeds United engage in the dark arts at Elland Road
Whether or not it was intentional, it’s clear the altercation with the groundsmen got into the head of the Watford man before a ball had been kicked.
Bachmann produced an error of similar calibre to Illan Meslier’s blunder in the 2-2 draw against Sunderland and completely misread Ramazani’s effort to gift the hosts the lead.
The Whites were in control of the contest from the minute the first whistle was blown and are now joint-top of the Championship table with Sunderland, albeit the Black Cats have a game in hand.
Leeds produced a blunder of their own as Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk were at fault for Kwadwo Baah’s goal early into the second half, gifting Watford a lifeline but, fortunately for Daniel Farke, it was nothing more than a consolation.
Farke made a risky decision benching the in-form Mateo Joseph for the tie, but one that paid its weight in gold as Leeds proved regardless of the current injury crisis at the club, they can outscore any side in the division in their quest to return to the Premier League.
All eyes will be on Kenilworth Road on Wednesday [23 October] as Leeds supporters will watch on hoping Luton Town can overturn the odds and stop Sunderland reclaiming the top spot in the Championship.
