Three things learned as Leeds United secure shock 3-0 win over Chelsea

Leeds shocked the Premier League with an emphatic 3-0 win over Chelsea at Elland Road on SUnday, with goals from Rodrigo, Jack Harrison and Brenden Aaronson.

The win is the Whites’ second of the season, and the victory helps them sit second in the table, behind Arsenal while they remain unbeaten.

Simply put, anything that could have gone well against the Blues, did so and Jesse Marsch’s team were deserving winners.

There were also some standout performers on the day including Harrison, Rodrigo and Tyler Adams, who all deserve praise for their displays against Thomas Tuchel’s men.

  1. Rodrigo has arrived

Rodrigo’s fine start to the season continued against the Blues, as he built on his goal against Wolves and brace against Southampton.

Against Chelsea, the Spaniard had five shots which was the most of the Leeds team, with two of them being on target and one header beating Edouard Mendy.

He has been deployed in a creative midfielder role this year playing just behind the striker but in Patrick Bamford’s absence, he led the lead in style.

The 31-year-old, who is now the Premier League’s top scorer, worked tirelessly, chasing down lost causes and deserved his goal.

2. Tyler Adams

Another key point from this match was the midfield performance of American international Tyler Adams in the centre of midfield.

The 23-year-old was everywhere against the Blues and the statistics are evidence of his phenomenal midfield performance.

Partnered next to Marc Roca, he had the most passes of the Leeds team, the most tackles, and interceptions as well as the most touches.

The former Leipzig midfielder dictated play, and brought stability to midfield and if he can continue to perform like that, Leeds fans will forget about Kalvin Phillips very quickly.

3. Workaholics

The final thing learned from this victory is that this Leeds team has brought into Marsch’s philosophy and is clearly ready to work.

They outran the opposition, looked stronger in their tackles, pressed with intensity and were deserving of their win.

If they can keep these energy and fitness levels up for the rest of their season, they will not be an easy game for anyone that comes in their way.

In other Leeds news, Jack Harrison was given a 10/10 rating against Chelsea.
