‘They intend to play…’ – Phil Hay details Leeds plan for pre-restart games after fixtures drop

The Championship is back a week on Saturday and Leeds United fans have found out the time and date of their first game back.

The belated bid for promotion gets underway a week on Sunday when Leeds travel to Cardiff for a midday kick-off.

Ahead of that, Leeds are going to play a couple of friendlies, according to Atheltic journalist Phil Hay.

He delivered the update in a fans’ Q&A on the Athletic on Monday.

Asked by a fan whether Leeds would play anyone ahead of the restart, Hay said, “They intend to play a couple – whether that’s in-house games or friendlies against other clubs.”

We’re surprised that Leeds haven’t announced friendly games already.

Title rivals West Brom were quick out of the gate, playing a 90-minute game against rivals Aston Villa.

The 90 minutes were split into three 30-minute sections and the Baggies drew 2-2.

We’re not questioning the team’s preparation. With Marcelo Bielsa at the helm and Rob Price propping him up, we expect no stone to have been left unturned as Leeds look to restart in the best condition possible.

The players have already said they’re raring to go.

Putting them through a couple of matches will be the final test for them after three months in lockdown.

Now that the fixtures have been announced it makes it all the more real. No more positive tests and no injuries are absolutely vital now.
