talkSPORT reporter Alan Biggs wowed by ‘thrilling’ Sam Byram goal for Leeds United v Watford
TalkSPORT reporter Alan Biggs was full of praise for Sam Byram’s “powerful” header for Leeds United against Watford.
Speaking live on talkSPORT (23 September, 16:33), Biggs waxed lyrical about the 30-year-old’s 70th-minute header to put Leeds 2-0 ahead after a dominant performance at Elland Road.
Byram returned to the side to face Watford, adding to Joel Piroe’s second-half strike thanks to the Hornets’ poor defending from a corner in a 3-0 victory.

Biggs said: “At last, there’s some realism to this scoreline. Sam Byram, back in the team today, with a powerful header following the corner.
“The marking was almost non-existent on him, but he had to climb to find some power in the header, which he did. A thrilling finish in the end and a thrilling performance from Leeds United. Watford have absolutely wilted, not just during the game but from the start.”
Big moment
Leeds more than deserved to be 2-0 up when Byram’s thunderous header evaded Daniel Bachmann in the Watford net. The shot-stopper would have been fuming at his defence who left Byram free in on the penalty spot to head home.
No love seems to be lost amongst the Leeds fanbase with the roar from the stands echoing across Elland Road, but Byram will be thanking the Watford backline for offering him so much space.
With constant pressure from the Whites, Daniel Farke would have been frustrated to leave the home ground without a convincing win, but after a goalless first half, his men came out of the tunnel raring to get Leeds the goals they deserved.

At this moment in the season, after an average start to the campaign, the side needed to start collecting wins. A draw against Hull City in midweek put a dampener on the club after their emphatic 3-0 victory at The Den against Millwall, but this goal-heavy affair has put them back on track.
With his first goal since returning to the club, Byram was been rewarded after his excellent display against Watford, which also saw Piroe and Bournemouth loanee Jaidon Anthony add salt to the Hornets’s wounds.
