Leeds United defender Djed Spence to miss weeks due to extremely rare tear - Injury Expert
We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at Leeds United...
Leeds United defender Djed Spence is ruled out for several weeks with a lateral collateral ligament injury, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.
The injury expert claims that the Tottenham Hotspur owned defender is out with an injury that's extremely rare for footballers.
It is a Grade 2 moderate tear - which means it could have been worse - but he will not be back in action for Leeds until mid November.
Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and Sports Scientist, said about Spence:
"This has been announced as a lateral collateral ligament (LCL) injury.
"If isolated, meaning nothing else is damaged, is actually extremely rare.
"The timeline of eight weeks aligns with a grade 2 moderate tear.
"The timeline appears to be legitimate so Leeds can expect him back by mid November."
Spence has yet to start a game for Leeds since his loan move this summer but looked impressive coming off the bench against Sheffield Wednesday.
His absence will come as a blow for Daniel Farke who made the decision to loan out Cody Drameh in the summer transfer window.
Luke Ayling is expected to be the first choice right-back at least until Spence is fit with Jamie Shackleton serving as his backup.
