Sue Smith thrilled by Adam Forshaw return for Leeds v Crewe

Leeds United welcomed Crewe to Elland Road on Tuesday evening as they began their Carabao Cup campaign.

Marcelo Bielsa named a strong side for the tie, but still handed out some different names including Adam Forshaw returning.

It has been two years away from the first-team for the midfielder, who has been struggling with a major hip injury.

Sue Smith was delighted to see Forshaw back when analysing the game on Sky Sports, admitting it has been a “nightmare” spell.

“It’s great to see Forshaw back in the Leeds side,” she said.

“Exactly the same with Forshaw, he’s had a nightmare, hasn’t played since September 2019 so it’s great to see him back in the middle of the park.”

It has been two long, long years for everyone involved with Forshaw.

There have been numerous returns for the under-23s and then new injury blows that have set him back even further.

Bielsa has taken his time with the midfielder who he rates massively this time around, and it looks as though he is reaping the rewards.

Forshaw looked like a new signing at Elland Road in the opening 45 minutes, buzzing around the park and almost opening the scoring.

Smith is right to label this as a long “nightmare”, but hopefully, that is something we can all forget about moving forward.
