Sue Smith slams Jack Harrison for Leeds United v Crewe
Leeds United once again missed buckets of chances in their Carabao Cup clash against Crewe this evening.
Marcelo Bielsa hasn’t had the best of luck in domestic cup competitions since arriving, but the Whites scraped across the line by three goals to nil.
Jack Harrison likely missed the biggest of those chances and Sue Smith tore him apart for lacking that clinical edge – something he made up for late in the clash with two goals of his own.
Speaking on Sky Sports this evening, Smith wasn’t impressed with Harrison as he missed a guilt-edged opportunity.
“It was good play from Leeds initially,” she said.
“It falls to Tyler Roberts, does well, plays the ball into Harrison, who I spoke about creating that earlier opportunity, he has to score.
“He has to at least hit the target. You’ve got to finish your chances off and Leeds just haven’t been clinical.”
We thought we had left the days of missing chances behind us, but that haunted us once again throughout this one.
Harrison was clean through on goal, and instead of showing some composure, he got over it and smashed it miles wide.
There are no excuses for that, and the winger is his own harshest critic, and he certainly failed this assignment but passed at the second and third time of asking.
Thankfully, captain Kalvin Phillips saved our bacon with a close-range finish from a corner late in the game and then it opened up for us to put it to bed.
One thing for sure, there will be some finishing drills this week in training.
