Stan Collymore predicts Leeds United v Aston Villa scoreline in Premier League clash
Stan Collymore predicts Leeds United and Aston Villa to play out a “tense” draw when the two sides meet at Elland Road on Sunday afternoon.
It will be the first time Jesse Marsch’s men have played in a month due to their September clashes with Nottingham Forest and Manchester United being postponed.
Leeds’ form is perhaps irrelevant in that case while Aston Villa make their way to Yorkshire off the back of a win over Southampton and draw with Manchester City in September.
Writing in the Sunday People print edition (2 October, page 60), Collymore predicted a 1-1 draw between the sides, saying: “Edgy, nervous, tense, draw.”
It’s only early October but this feels like a big game.
Leeds have a lot of matches to play between now and the World Cup kicking off next month so it’s important to go into that run of games in good form.
We’ve got fairly favourable fixtures too.
After playing Aston Villa this weekend, the Whites face Crystal Palace, Arsenal, Leicester, Fulham, Liverpool and Bournemouth before finishing off the period with two games in a week against Wolves in the Carabao Cup and an away trip to Tottenham on 12 November.
It’s a lot of matches to get through and while we do play a few of the big-six in there, there are also several winnable games against clubs you’d expect to beat and also those down there at the bottom struggling.
It’ll be a hectic few weeks and thankfully we have played returning from injury now and reaching match readyness.
Let’s just hope we can avoid injuries during this run but we also need to go into it in as best form as possible.
Beating Aston Villa this weekend will be massive.
In other Leeds United news, Luis Sinisterra has already been linked with a move away from Elland Road.
