Stan Collymore predicts Leeds United showdown v Crystal Palace, winner named

Stan Collymore has backed Leeds United to win against Crystal Palace at Elland Road on Sunday to further strengthen their Premier League survival bid.

Leeds dropped down to 16th in the table thanks to developments on Saturday but a win against Palace on 9 April can see them shoot up to 12th and five points clear of the bottom three.

That’s what Collymore expects to happen, tipping Javi Gracia’s men to win 2-1 against Roy Hodgson’s Eagles.

Writing in the Sunday People (page 62, 9 April), Collymore said: “A must-win for both, but I can’t see Palace scoring too many under Roy Hodgson – and Leeds have got their tails up.”

Must-win, indeed

Collymore’s right here.

Although Leeds aren’t in immediate danger, they absolutely have to win this game in order to stop themselves from being really sucked into the trouble.

Palace are in a similar position but still, this is a six-pointer.

Whoever loses this is in danger of becoming stuck down near the bottom with other clubs seemingly picking up wins.

Wolves, West Ham and Bournemouth all won on Saturday so there is a bit of a gap emerging now.

Leeds are two points clear of the drop zone and if that gap becomes five, they should be fine. Palace are one point ahead of the Whites, so a win for them and you’d think they’re fine too.

And if there’s a draw? It wouldn’t suit either team, really.

Leeds have a mixture of games on the horizon so it’s hard to say how things are going to go but beating other teams who are down there with us is more important than winning against the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.
