‘Sick and tired of it’ – BBC pundit piles into Leeds players after shock defeat v Crawley
BBC pundit Noel Whelan was left incandescent after Leeds United fell to another shock defeat in the FA Cup.
Marcelo Bielsa still hasn’t won a game in the competition, but yesterday’s 3-0 loss to Crawley was a major shock.
The game was 0-0 at half-time but Bielsa’s substitutions backfired and Crawley were deserved winners.
Talking on the BBC Radio Leeds coverage of the game (Sunday, 3pm), Whelan savaged the Leeds side after the game.
“At the end of the day, we were not good enough by a long shot.
“I said that you’ve got to fight, I said you’ve got to battle against teams like this down at the bottom.
“We’ve shown over the past three seasons that we are incapable of doing that, and I am sick and tired of it.”
Embarrassing for Leeds
Whelan is a big Leeds fan and he was saying what we were all thinking after an embarrassment of a weekend.
Leeds haven’t got out of the third round of the cup for the past four seasons now, with defeats to Newport, QPR, Arsenal and now Crawley.
The good thing is that we can just focus on the Premier League now in a season that could get worse in terms of a tough schedule of fixtures.
However, a defeat like this won’t do the team any good and it won’t do the youngsters who played any good.
What we need now is a big reaction in a game that we should definitely win, against Brighton on Saturday.
Some big players got a rest on Sunday and it’s now up to Marcelo Bielsa to get everyone’s head right at Thorp Arch.
Diego Llorente could be targeting a place in the side after returning from injury and he may feature for the Under-23s this afternoon against Burnley.
