Sam Byram spotted stretching hamstrings amid new Leeds United injury concern v Bristol City

Graham Smyth spotted Sam Byram “stretching his hamstrings” after completing 90 minutes as Leeds United drew 0-0 with Bristol City on Saturday (26 October).

With Junior Firpo serving a one-match suspension after picking up five yellow cards versus the Robins, Jayden Bogle is now set to face the same fate after picking up a caution at Aston Gate.

Unless Daniel Farke makes quite a drastic change, Byram is likely to be needed for the clash against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday 2 November, and Smyth was slightly concerned by the player.

Taking to X on Saturday (26 October), Smyth wrote: “Byram stretching his hamstrings. Given he’ll have to play right-back next week, it might be sensible to get him off.”

Given that Farke’s only changes were to swap Dan James and Joel Piroe for Manor Solomon and Mateo Joseph, the Whites probably do not have much to worry about.

Leeds have seven days to prepare for the home clash against Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth side, and though more players will be rested, Byram will likely be one of the first names on the teamsheet.

The 31-year-old has only started one other game this season, playing 64 minutes against Middlesbrough in August, but he looked comfortable in defence as the Whites kept another clean sheet.

Firpo and Byram will likely line up at Elland Road next weekend unless Isaac Schmidt makes his first start for the club, and Leeds should have no problem with these two aces back in the starting XI.

Of course, Farke will have wanted to secure all three points at Ashton Gate, but after the Robins had multiple chances to open the scoring, a point away from home is not the worst result.

Leeds will be pushing for the automatic promotion spots, alongside Sunderland, Burnley, West Brom, Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers, and the single point will keep them in the race.
