Report: Big UK household brand wants Bielsa as new face of drink, Leeds 'source' responds

Could Marcelo Bielsa be the next face of Yorkshire Tea? That’s the latest news on the Leeds United boss from the Sun.

Bielsa has reportedly become a new fan of the English brew, admitting in an interview in Argentina, “It is true I am learning the way of life since moving to England. Everybody drinks a lot of tea and I am finding myself enjoying this too.”

The Sun claim that the Yorkshire Tea bosses think he would be the perfect ambassador for them quoting them as saying, “The fact Mr Bielsa insists on a proper brew cements his status as an honorary Yorkshireman.”

They also quote a ‘Leeds source’ as saying, “Despite the language problems Marcelo is really trying hard to engage with the British way of life, and he’s keen to blend in with those around him.

“When he first arrived he was very much a coffee drinker, but slowly he’s developed a real taste for Yorkshire Tea and drinks it both at work and at home. He would be a great ambassador for it.”

Bielsa for Yorkshire Tea? Nah…

Okay, this definitely wins the award for most bizarre Leeds story of the week.

We can’t see for a second Bielsa popping up in a TV advert for Yorkshire Tea, a la Ray Winstone and bet365.

He shuns the spotlight at the best of times and he certainly doesn’t need the money.

The Sun story really reads like a side hustle that a journalist has crafted in cahoots with Yorkshire Tea for a bit of PR, right down to the anonymous ‘Leeds source’ who claims he drinks it all the time.

Not that we’ve got anything against a cheeky bit of spin involving Bielsa. And we’re rather partial to a cup of Yorkshire Tea – or the “drink of champions” as we call it.
