Phil Hay shares worrying Leeds United injury news from press box at Elland Road

Leeds United have got major injury concerns ahead of their return to Premier League action against Manchester City next week, says Phil Hay.

The Whites are taking on Monaco in their final winter friendly before the season resumes after the World Cup, but are without several first-team players for the game.

Illan Meslier, Liam Cooper, Patrick Bamford, Crysencio Summerville, Jack Harrison, Tyler Adams, Stuart Dallas, Sonny Perkins, Rodrigo, Luis Sinisterra and Mateusz Klich were all absent at Elland Road.

Writing from the press box at Elland Road on his personal Twitter account, Hay said;

“Last friendly before we get going properly again. Heck of a lot of absentees tonight, as there were at open training yesterday. Hopefully get a full rundown on fitness post match.”

Problem

Injuries are a part of football and everyone knows that, but having so many players missing from a friendly game a week out from the first game back of the actual season when you’ve just had six weeks off is incredibly worrying.

Injuries are constantly piling up and during a period where they should realistically have eased up due to resting and a lack of games, they’ve seemingly got worse.

It’s now a good thing we didn’t have games during this period or only God knows what type of team we would have been putting out.

When we face Manchester City next week we would be underdogs no matter what the status of our squad, but having so many players as doubts heading into that game is only going to hurt preparation for the fixture and it’s a huge concern.

If we can’t get these injuries under control and start to be able to have consistent options to choose from, then a relegation battle will be hard to avoid.
