Six changes, Joel Robles axed - Leeds United confirmed XI v AS Monaco

Leeds United have made 6 changes to their starting lineup ahead of their final winter friendly against AS Monaco this evening.

Joel Robles has been axed from the side just one week before the clash with Manchester City despite Illan Meslier being out with glandular fever, with Kristoffer Klaesson getting the nod between the sticks.

Luke Ayling starts at centre-back alongside Robin Koch with Pascal Struijk returning to left-back as Liam Cooper and Diego LLorente miss out with injury.

Marc Roca, Adam Forshaw and Sam Greenwood all start while youngsters Willy Gnonto and Joe Gelhardt get the nod in attack alongside Brenden Aaronson.

It’s a youthful bench too with all of Mateo Joseph, Cody Drameh, Leo Hjelde, Tristan Van Den Huevel and Darko Gyabi named as substitutes.

Preparation

Much like the previous friendlies against Elche and Real Sociedad, the result isn’t a big deal but it’s all about the performance for Leeds and Jesse Marsch.

Those games haven’t been particularly good from that perspective so far, despite winning both clashes 2-1, and many fans at Elland Road tonight will be hopeful of seeing a big improvement.

Monaco are a very good side and will look to keep the ball, much like Manchester City will do when we return to Premier League action next week and this will be good preparation.

But the team is likely to resemble what type of side Marsch will put out for that game in advance, and that means we should see a marked improvement and plenty of hunger from the players who are looking to claim their place in the side where they wouldn’t usually be considered regulars.

It’s a strong team against strong opposition, so here’s hoping we can put together a great performance to sing home about until we’re back properly.
