Phil Hay shares if Marcelo Bielsa will drop Adam Forshaw for Leeds United v Brentford

Phil Hay does not see Marcelo Bielsa dropping Adam Forshaw for the Leeds United v Brentford clash later today (December 5).

The Leeds boss ruled Luke Ayling and Patrick Bamford fit in his press conference which could have implications for the rest of the team.

If Ayling starts, there’s a good chance that Stuart Dallas comes to midfield for Adam Forshaw, and the midfielder could also be replaced by Mateusz Klich or Rodrigo.

However, Hay does not see the Argentine boss dropping the 30-year-old for this game.

In his Athletic Q&A, he was asked about his thoughts on any possible changes. He replied, “I don’t see Bielsa dropping Forshaw. So on the basis that it will probably be 3-3-1-3, does Phillips drop to CB again?”

Need Phillips in midfield

It will be baffling and frustrating if Phillips is back to playing at centre-back today.

He’s one of the best deep-lying playmakers in the league, if not Europe, and clearly is not as effective playing in the defence.

A switch to 4-1-4-1 must be on the cards for the Argentine if he wants his side to dominate proceedings against Brentford.

If this means that Forshaw makes way, then so be it, but the side cannot compromise on what Phillips bring to the table for them.

Forshaw has been decent, but like most players in the team, his place is expendable.

Phillips, Raphinha, Patrick Bamford and Illan Meslier are possibly the only few untouchables in this squad.

Hopefully, we see the England international back in midfield and running the show against the Bees later today.
